When challenges arise, no one should face them alone. The BTHAF exists to provide support, relief, and hope to Our People—because we believe in Caring for Our Own.
The Bruce T. Halle Assistance Fund (BTHAF) exists to care for and provide Our People with confidential relief during unforeseen hardships by raising awareness and promoting contributions to the fund in a manner reflecting the values, compassion, and integrity of our organization and its founder.
The BTHAF is committed to providing timely assistance for basic necessities when an employee is facing or experiencing an unexpected hardship. Assistance may be granted for, but is not limited to the following:
The BTHAF Board members are committed to being responsible stewards of the fund to see that every dollar donated and granted is balanced with a focus on assisting Our People, while respecting the guidelines as a 501(c)(3) charity.
Due to the private nature of each request, all individuals requesting assistance must submit an Application and related supporting material to the Fund’s Relief Review Committee. Please select the application below that best fits your needs:
The review process can take up to two weeks.
Applicant must submit initial application within 45 days of qualifying event (not necessarily the date of an accident, but when the assistance requirement arises, for example). All applications submitted must be signed and dated.
All full-time and part-time employees of Discount Tire Company, America’s Tire Company and Discount Tire Direct (the “Companies”) are eligible to apply for a grant, as follows:
The party for whose benefit a grant may be made must be an eligible employee, or an eligible employee’s “dependent.” “Dependent” generally means the following person(s):

Copies of invoices, payment coupons, doctor bills, bill pertinent to the hardship, etc. should be attached to the Application when it is submitted to the Fund.
The “Family Budget” page must be completed.
Committee members will review the Application against established criteria and determine if an award will be granted and the amount of such award. Each Application will be reviewed by the Grant Committee not only to determine if the hardship is one covered by the Fund, but also whether other sources of funds may be available for use by the applicant. Other sources of funds that may be immediately available will determine the level of assistance the Fund may provide, if a grant is made. Other sources of funds include:
The employee must certify that no part of the expenses sought to be covered with a grant from the Fund will be paid or reimbursed from another source, such as from insurance.
A copy of the Application will be either faxed, or scanned and e-mailed, to the Grant Committee members.
The Applicant will be contacted and advised of the Grant Committee’s determination by a Fund committee member or another appropriate, designated person.
The original Application form will be kept in the Fund files for IRS purposes.

The Bruce T. Halle Assistance fund was established in 1997 as a means of providing a gift to Mr. Halle from Executive staff, in the same spirit of giving that is the hallmark of his life. The Bruce T. Halle Assistance Fund honors Mr. Halle for his life-long compassion and sense of commitment toward his people, which is the foundation of our company’s culture. Over time, the fund has become a company-wide effort to support each other in times of hardship.
Contributions to the fund have been raised through a variety of fun activities including: The Ride to Raise motorcycle event (Corp & Regional rides), volleyball, bike rides, golf tournaments and many others. These activities as well as the process for evaluating assistance requests have been managed as a private effort within the company.
As a 501(c)3 charity, we now have the ability to expand our fund raising beyond the confines of the company, while providing a tax deductible option for contributors. With this approach, we will expand our ability to reach out and help more employees facing difficult circumstances.
The Bruce T. Halle Employee Assistance Fund is a great program for all employees, and I am thankful that it has been there to assist me. I look forward to purchasing my Ride to Raise tickets next year, so that I can help the program help more employees! I am grateful to work for such a caring company. I hope that I can contribute to DTC’s well-being as much as they have cared for mine.
I would like to take a moment and thank everyone that has helped me in this time of need. Mr. Halle, thank you so very much for building a company that cares for people. Everyone believes in one another and the passion to help each other grow, not just within the company, but in our personal lives as well. I can truly call each of you a friend if not more of a family. I look forward to spending many more years with Discount Tire. The heritage, the passion, the integrity, and the love for one another cannot be touched by another company out there. I will continue to pass on these qualities to everyone I meet in hope that they, too, can believe in what a beautiful company this is.
Thank you so much for helping my family during this difficult time. With the financial stresses we have been under, trying to come up with money to attend my loved one’s funeral could have been a heart-wrenching burden to add to the mix. But thanks to Mr. Halle and the Assistance Fund, I’ll be there for my family…I am eternally grateful.
